What is SEAL KAYAKING all about ?
Kayaking is a way to see the ocean around Hout Bay and the harbour - connecting you with the ocean, and gliding through the seas. With help from our expert guides, we will lead you through a 2 hour journey exploring the hidden corners of Hout Bay harbor and out into the bay itself. You will see ocean wildlife, kelp forests, fynbos mountain cliffs and possibly a dolphin, sunfish or whale. A great way to experience Cape Town's outdoor lifestyle.

Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes, you must be able to swim. You must also be able to get back into the kayak at sea. You will be wearing a lifejacket for your safety.
How long is the trip & what to wear?
The trip is 2 hours long in total. You should board shorts and a warm sports top. You will get splashed or wet during this activity.
Where do we meet ?
41 Victoria Ave, Hout Bay, Cape Town. Here you will be briefed and kitted up.
What's the age and weight limit?
10 years old is the youngest paddler we take on trips. When sharing a kayak the combined weight of both paddlers must not be over 200 kg.
What wildlife could I see on a tour ?
We encounter a lot of ocean life on our trips, Heaviside dolphins are seen regularly. You will see Cape fur seals, Cape cormorants, and Bank cormorants. If you are lucky you may spot a sunfish, Dusky dolphin, or Southern Right whale!

Snorkeling Ocean Safari's & Seal Kayaking
Animal Ocean was founded by Steve Benjamin, a Zoologist turned Cameraman, as a way to keep exploring the marine world around South Africa. Starting out of his parent's garden in 2009, Animal Ocean now has a wonderful dive center in Hout Bay and a committed crew of staff. We cater to adventurous ocean people from snorkelers to SCUBA divers, helping them get closer to nature and the amazing South African marine world. We started with Seal Snorkel for the past 14 years, and adapted with seals getting Rabies with a shift to snorkeling Ocean Safari's, we now add Seal Kayaking to our list of growing outdoor activities that we offer to our guests.
Steve and Animal Ocean has lead multiple film shoots to capture the marine life around the world and in South Africa. You can see our work in the iconic film by BBC BLUE PLANET II or on NETFLIX's OUR OCEANS, as well on a host of other channels and magazines.
Lara Caine heads up the business with Sam assisting her, they are the helpful heroes at the end of the emails. Rob Cain is our skipper and all-round amazing ocean and weather man. All are incredible people who dedicate their lives to helping mariners in need through the National Sea Rescue Institute. You couldn't be in better hands when venturing on the ocean with us.
Since 2009 Animal Ocean has been the premier Seal Snorkeling company in Cape Town. We have been delighting clients with our ocean experiences, passion, service, facilities, and getting you close to our marine wildlife.
